Many of you are probably aware of the struggles that the Western Plains Animal Refuge has faced over the last several years. While we have received a great deal of support from the community, we have never been able to get the adoptions, donations, and volunteers we truly needed. Recently, the situation has worsened, which has led us to make some very difficult choices. We are deeply heartbroken by this, but we have decided to reduce many of our current services and indefinitely postpone our plans to build a facility. The organization is not disbanding, but we are taking this time to address some persistent issues and develop a plan for our future.
We will continue providing care for our current domestic animals until they are all adopted after which we will not be accepting any new animals, unless one of our previously adopted animals has to be returned to us. Due to a lack of wildlife rehabilitators in the area, we will be continuing our wildlife rehabilitation services with the help of some dedicated volunteers. We have also decided to indefinitely suspend all future events, with the exception of the Grrrs and Prrrs Valentine Gala as we have already put so much effort into organizing it. However, given the uncertainty that our organization faces, we have decided to allocate all proceeds from the event toward providing free and low-cost spays and neuters for cats and dogs in our area. All public office hours this week have been cancelled, but we will still be available by appointment.
We will be releasing more information in the coming weeks and you can find more details about the gala on its event pages. We offer our sincerest apologies to all of our supporters over the years and we know that we could not have made it this far without you. Many of you will undoubtedly be disappointed by all of this and we share your disappointment. Ultimately, our primary concern is for the well-being of animals and we will do everything we can to help make our community a better place for them in whatever ways we are able. Any questions, comments, or concerns can be directed to our executive director, Brendon, and you can contact him at email@example.com.
